Murtle.
Yesterday on the way to Christa's....i saw a terrapin turtle crossing the road. It's that time of year that the females cross the cause way to go lay their eggs in the marsh. It's like, they have this mission. To cross the road they must risk their life to do what they were born to do. I envy their selflessness. As i was driving i saw this poor little one in the middle of the road. Slow as can be trying to make it to the other side. i quickly pulled over and ran to scoop her up. She was bleeding out of her mouth and her eye was swollen like maybe the tire had just knocked her. To think that someone could do that and not try and help her across to the other side. I imagine some asshole was cruising along 50mph and didn't have 2 minutes of beach time to give to the poor little thing and help her to safety. When i saw she was injured, i took her and put her in this kennel i had in my car(i always seem to have one handy). When i got to Christa's, she and Jackie came and helped me get her inside. We named he Murtle, and we gave her a tin full of water(which she seemed to prefer to be in) and a raw shrimp(that she didn't eat ha). Murtle and I stayed over night. Murtle on Christa's balcony and me on the couch. On a side note, in previous times i have stayed at Christa's...her b/f Mario came home really late(because he is a bouncer at a club) and around 5 a.m. i am always awakened by a tall, built, shadowy figure who never fails to scare the shit out of me..haha. SO anyway, Murtle seemed to be better in the morning. The bleeding had stopped and the swelling in her eye was going down because she could blink it. I called the wetlands institute and they told me if she only had minor injuries to let her go because they are very good self rehabilitaters and considering her injuries she should be fine. As I pulled over in the cause way to set her free, i noticed a father and a son looking on the side of the road. The little boy ran up to me and was excited to see the turtle. His father made it apparent they were looking for one to take home as a pet. I informed them that they couldn't take a terrapin because they were endangered and it was illegal. When he seems unfazed i made up some bullshit about how they make horrible pets and they are very nasty and bite. Then just for fun i threw in that, like komodo dragons, their saliva is poisonous and can cause a terrible bacterial infection if you are bitten. He got a little freaked out and i assume opted not to take a turtle home because they drove away. Jackass. It made me so mad because here's dad trying to get his son a turtle...not caring that he is taking the poor thing from it's habitat to lock up in a cage until it's death for his little shit son to poke with a stick. His ignorance and selfishness astounded me. It really makes you think....humans more superior then a turtle? maybe... but humans more noble? don't know about that.
